After difficult negotiations and with the assistance of a federal mediator, UPSEU Local 1222 and the university reached an agreement on a new contract. The contract was overwhelmingly approved by the membership.
A central issue in the negotiations was the university's unwillingness to move employees on the step of the salary schedule. This issue was resolved, with the university continuing employees on the salary schedule. Annual wage increases were added in each year of the agreement and off step employees continued the historical wage adjustment in addition to the GWI.
UPSEU Local 1222 President Kevin E. Boyle, Jr. commenting on the negotiations stated, "Negotiations were difficult, but the negotiating team demonstrated great resolve in standing strong against the university's refusal to grant step raises, something Local 1222 and the membership fought hard to put in the contract a number of years ago to meet salaries."
Boyle thanked the negotiating team led by Unit President Trish Feliciano and Vice President Shelly Padro, who along with team members Linda Dominguez, Roman Gebuza and Jamie Perkins, did an excellent job in standing strong to maintain steps and secure increases on the schedules. Boyle also thanked Representative/Attorney Liz Ditman for her assistance throughout the process.
